Hand grasping another's hand

Help us help others.

Al-Anon’s 7th Tradition states that “every group ought to be fully self-supporting, declining outside contributions.” Support at all levels comes from Al-Anon members. If it were to come from outside sources the spiritual principle of self-support would be lost.

While contributions cover each group’s individual expenses, the 7th Tradition is essential to every level of Al-Anon. This responsibility of groups and its members of keeping all service levels self-supporting, ensures Al-Anon’s worldwide unity, and freedom from outside influences that might divert us from our primary purpose — to support families and friends of alcoholics.

This service pamphlet on the 7th Tradition helps explain this principle.
